On July 25th, President Bush issued a federal disaster declaration for Travis County, associated with the recent flooding situation. Under this declaration, assistance may be available to individuals, families, businesses, and private, non-profit organizations if they suffered a loss and qualify under the program. Public assistance to governmental entities was not part of this declaration for Travis County.

Interested individuals can call 1-800-621-FEMA to obtain information or to apply for assistance under this declaration.

A Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) is also coming to Travis County to offer assistance to residents affected by the severe storms and flooding in the region. Recovery specialists will be available to answer questions residents may have about the disaster aid process. The MDRC will open in Austin on Tuesday, August 7 and operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through Friday, August 10. It will be located at:

Westside Service Center
4501 FM 620 North
(Just before Mansfield Dam)
Austin, TX 78732

Disaster recovery centers are a one-stop shop for affected individuals to learn more about the disaster aid process. Individuals can meet one-on-one with disaster recovery specialists to check on the status of their application, learn about other types of aid that may be available, and receive information about how to avoid future disaster losses when repairing or rebuilding. Customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to answer questions and help renters, homeowners, businesses of any size, and private non-profit organizations fill out loan applications.
